Barry Keoghan is finally stepping away from the role of sidekick, and into the limelight as a leading man in Emerald Fennell’s much anticipated second stint at directing (after 2020’s divisive thriller, Promising Young Woman).

Fennell’s sophomore film, entitled Saltburn, is another thriller, this time revolving around themes of obsession – and likened to The Talented Mr Ripley. What, you might ask, is Mr Keoghan obsessed by? That would be Jacob Elordi, or more accurately, the wealthy college student he portrays. Can’t say we blame him.

What is the plot of Saltburn about?

From what details we have, the film has been put forth as an explicit, R-rated ‘vampire movie’, with lots of nudity.

Keoghan plays Oliver Quick a working class student at Oxford University who falls in with a wealthy, aristocratic crowd at university. Besotted by one in particular, Felix Catton (played by Elordi), Quick finds himself invited to Catton’s family estate for a wild and unforgettable summer.

There’s The Talented Mr Ripley comparison given the study of class within, and since Saltburn is set at a college among an aristocratic cohort, we’re sensing similarities with The Secret History also. The film takes its name from the estate it’s set in.

Who has been cast in Saltburn?

As mentioned, Barry Keoghan will lead the project, moving out of the box of bridesmaid to bride. Starring alongside him is Jacob Elordi, hot off the heels of his press tour for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.

We’ll also see Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike step on board in a supporting role, and Promising Young Woman star Carey Mulligan.

In terms of production, LuckyChap Entertainment, the company Margot Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley own, has been tapped to produce alongside Fennell and Josey McNamara.

Is there a release date yet?

Saltburn just premiered in August at the Telluride Film Festival, and is set to hit theatres in the US on 24 November 2023. A wider cinematic release will roll out from 1 December 2023. However, you’ll want to get tickets to SXSW Sydney for its Australian debut.

If you happen to be in London at the London Film Festival this October, you’ll also be able to catch the film at its international premiere on 4 October.

Acclaimed British actor Rosamund Pike will star in upcoming pandemic-themed thriller Rich Flu, exploring a disease infecting some of the richest people across the globe. The film is directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, known for his dystopic sci-fi film The Platform, with the script written by Pedo Rivero in conjunction with Gaztelu-Urrutia.

What is Rich Flu about?

The film’s central plot focusses on an unknown disease killing off some of the wealthiest and most influential people on the planet. It begins with billionaires, then multi-millionaires and gradually progresses through subsequent societal earners. Then, the disease is applicable to all considered to have a fortune to their name, sparking global panic and the market flooded with now unwanted fiscal assets. The film dissects the extent to which people would go to save themselves when their coveted wealth becomes a dangerous commodity.

Rich Flu has been described by Gaztelu-Urrutia as an immense physical saga with multiple twists and obstacles for the characters to overcome. More than anything, it is set to be a complex and emotional journey examining human soul and the offshoots of self-indulgence.

When is Rich Flu set to release?

While there is no slated release date just yet for Rich Flu, you can get your fix of Rosamund Pike elsewhere. Pike is currently starring in Amazon Prime Video series The Wheel of Time. She has previously been nominated for an Academy Award – for her performance in David Fincher’s Gone Girl – and earned a Best Actress Golden Globe for her performance in dark comedy-thriller I Care a Lot.

Principle photography for the film is set to commence mid-year with the film produced by Pablo Larraín, who directed Kristen Stewart’s latest film Spencer and Jackie, the 2016 film focussing on the days after the assassination of JFK. Juan de Dios Larraín, Adrián Guerra, Núria Valls Carlos Juárez and Albert Soler are also listed as producers across Fabula and Nostromo Pictures.

Rosamund Pike is a powerhouse as Marie Curie in the ‘Radioactive’ trailer https://www.russh.com/radioactive-film/ Mon, 12 Oct 2020 03:37:01 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=108931 The story of Marie Curie, one of the most important scientists in our history.

Marie Curie is undeniably one of most brilliant and celebrated scientists in human history. Now her story is being told on film in an epic biopic called Radioactive.

Her enduring legacy has made the impossible, possible. Her discovery of ‘radioactivity’ and the element radium and polonium have formed the basis of many crucial discoveries in both physics and chemistry. She was the woman to win a Nobel Prize and was first person ever to win the Nobel Prize twice.

Now, her story is being told in film.

In the 1870s, Academy Award Winner Rosamund Pike plays Curie. The story follows as her through her life, documenting her discoveries and her partnership and marriage to fellow scientist Pierre Curie. The bold depictions shows how she changed nearly everything we knew about science up to that point and how she shaped the future of humanity.

Watch the trailer for Radioactive below.

Radioactive is in theatres from November 5 here in Australia – one of the many exciting releases coming at the end of 2020.

It’s a story that is particularly relevant to our current moment. A story of how hard facts need to work to triumph over fiction. A story of the fight to be recognised, acknowledged and appreciated regardless of gender.

Radioactive Rosamund Pike

Marie Curie was a pioneer who offered our civilisation the means to advance. During the World War I, she developed and invented a portable X-Ray service to assist field hospitals. And it was her co-authored paper on the effect of radium – which showed how diseased, tumour cells were destroyed faster than healthy ones when exposed to the element – that served as the basis the cancer treatments we use today.

This movie shows transformative effects and ensuing fallout of the Curies’ work and how this shaped the defining moments of the 20th Century. The film also stars Sam Riley, Katherine Parkinson, Simon Russell Beale and Anya Taylor-Joy.
