December might just be my favourite month of the year, sartorially speaking. Not because its quiet (is it ever?) but because it’s when getting dressed feels least complicated. There are places to be and people to see, absolutely — but there’s also an unspoken permission to dress for enjoyment rather than obligation.

This month, fashion sits in that sweet spot between practical and celebratory. Pieces need to work hard, but they should still feel fun: lightweight dresses that don’t require a second thought, long-line denim shorts that hang perfectly at your hips, bikinis made for early-morning swims, and separates that look intentional even when thrown on in a rush. It’s all about items that move effortlessly through the festive season and the busy, sun-filled days that come with it.

There’s also a shift in the accessories I reach for in December. They’re not there to finish an outfit so much as define it. A great pair of sunglasses makes a basic tee and shorts feel instantly cooler. Micro beaded bags are the festive season personified. Earrings and a colourful heeled sandal transition a linen dress from day to night without question. Even stringing a necklace across my décolletage feels like decorating a human Christmas tree — in the best way possible.

As the year draws to a close, wardrobes follow suit. Dressing becomes intuitive and joyful — a reflection of a month that’s busy, bright, and best enjoyed without overthinking it. Below, peruse our December fashion favourites — the pieces we’re reaching for on repeat as the year winds down.

I’m going to call it. The straw hat is back. But in my heart of hearts I truly believe – did it really go anywhere? When we divide and conquer what makes a hat, a good hat, from adequate shielding of the sun to covering its base in sweat safety and breathable headwear; surely the farmers, desert dwellers, cowboys and Hawaiians had the right idea?

Our November favourites feature the pieces we’ll be living in this summer

If you can believe it, November is here. When I can stop myself from reeling about the fact that this year is passing by at lightening speed, I’m actually a big fan of November. The hesitancy of early spring has lifted, and is replaced by longer days, warmer air, and the first whispers of summer. It’s also a particularly fun month for shopping, as our wardrobes start to loosen up — literally and metaphorically – and our calendars become dotted with long lunches, end of year celebrations, and holiday plans. Linen becomes a second skin, swimwear asserts itself into our daily rotation, and the colours we reach for feel sun-soaked (even if the actual the forecast doesn’t always agree).

This month, breezy separates have proved the MVP of my wardrobe. Linen pants, oversized shirting, cotton skirts, simple singlets, and long-line shorts that can be dressed up for unexpected heatwaves and afternoon drinks alike are all I reach for. Dresses, too, are beginning their annual renaissance. From linens to silks, I’m stocking up on styles that work just as well for spontaneous dinners as they do for warm office days.

And then there are the accessories — the true scene-stealers of November. Sunglasses are taking on bigger, oversized shapes, while jewellery skews more playful (colourful beads and resin bangles are all very much invited to the party). Handbags shrink or expand depending on whether you’re beach-bound or bar-hopping, and footwear takes the form of barely-there sandals (jelly and rope styles have proved fan favourites so far) for the daytime and sculptural heels for the emerging social calendar. There’s an ease to it all, a sense of fun that feels distinctly “almost-summer in Australia”.

Our favourite ballet flats to shop right now

It feels like we’ve been droning on about our love of the ballet flat for years, at this point. But in 2025, our obsession is showing no signs of slowing down. The shoe began to emerge on the runway during the spring summer 2022 season within collections from Molly Goddard and Chanel. Months later, the style came to signal the rise of what TikTok coined Balletcore, a trend that riffed on all the bits in a ballerina’s gym bag, from legwarmers to soft pinks ribbons, wraparound cardigans to tiered midi skirts. But the real masterstroke came from Miuccia Prada, when she dropped the satin – and now viral – ballet flats during the Miu Miu autumn winter 2022 collection.

It was all over from this point. Somehow, the humble ballet slipper had unlocked a certain room in our brains quietly dedicated to the whimsies of girlhood. For the first time, people had begun to pass over Tabi boots for the Margiela ballet flats instead. Sandy Liang released a satin, ballet-inspired pair of mary janes, and later a sold out mesh option. Paloma Wool came out with their own style. The Row’s Ava flat pranced their way across footpaths in New York City, as did the ballet flats from Khaite. Elsewhere, Simone Rocha released a sporty take on ballet flats with its beaded Criss Cross Tracker Ballerina, Alaïa came out with a jewelled leather pair, and Italian blanket-stitched styles were an easy buy in to the trend.

Welcome the seasonal shift with our October fashion favourites

October here in Australia is a season of renewal. The chill of winter has softened, and has been replaced by mornings warmed with sunlight and longer, brighter evenings (thank you, Daylight Savings). It’s also the month when our wardrobes collectively exhale: heavy knits and dark layers make way for lighter fabrics, fluid silhouettes, and colour that reflects the energy of the season.

Getting dressed in October feels like Springtime personified. Linen shirting floats effortlessly over bikinis, midi skirts swirl with each sandal-footed step, and limbs are finally bare in sun dresses. Colours – much like the weather – are no longer muted, and prints emerge in unexpected combinations, bringing freshness to familiar staples.

The magic of October lies in its versatility. Days can start cool and end sun-drenched, so layers remain essential — a relaxed blazer over a breezy dress, a soft cardigan atop a barely-there tank, or a skivvy tucked in your handbag, always at the ready. Footwear similarly toes the line (no pun intended) between comfort and style: sleek sandals for sunlit walks, and a trusty pair of ballet flats for the office and rainy days.

Accessories are more than finishing touches — they punctuate every look with personality. Sculptural necklaces (we’re big fans of the beading trend here at RUSSH) and silk scarves are the playful punctuations our outfits are begging for. We’re (somehow) already halfway through 2025, which means we’ve actually got the perspective now to analyse what’s been popular so far. The 2025 designer handbag market has shifted toward functionality, quiet status, and subtle innovation. Consumers are demanding more from luxury – versatility, quality craftsmanship, and longevity – and brands are responding with designs that prioritise wearability.

Shapes have evolved (the east-west is really having a moment), brown suedes and buckle bags are dominating, and limited-edition releases are increasingly being sold-out. To help you cut through the noise, the RUSSH editors have put together a comprehensive list of the 2025 designer handbags dominating the internet, topping wish lists and special editions of all-time classics to keep an eye on.

1. Bottega Veneta Andiamo Voyager

New for 2025, the Bottega Veneta Andiamo Voyager bag was launched back in April. It’s part of the same line Matthieu Blazy started in his SS23 collection, but this one’s a bit more functional. (The original Andiamo was 2023’s must-have bag – so this latest iteration has all the makings of a 2025 icon.) Crafted in Italy from weathered calfskin leather, it features a vintage silver knot detail, a detachable cross-body strap, suede lining, and it’s actually big enough to fit a 16-inch laptop (a rarity from designer bags).

2. Miu Miu Adventure Suede Bag

The new Aventure suede shoulder bag from Miu Miu’s AW24 collection is a rework of the original 2009 shape, but a bit bigger and slouchier. The calfskin suede feels super soft, and the gold hardware, zip closure, and inside pocket make it feel functional without trying too hard – definitely one of those bags that’ll get better the more you wear it.

3. LOEWE Featherlight Puzzle Bag

This 10th anniversary edition of the Puzzle was introduced in Andrson’s SS25 collection, still crafted from nappa lambskin, but with a softer, slouchier structure. It also features slimmer hardware, a detachable, adjustable strap with rotating dog clips for crossbody, shoulder or hand carry, an external zip pocket, internal slip pocket, baguette-shaped metal feet, and a removable balloon dice charm tucked inside a secret pocket. Essentially, it’s the final word in Jonathan Anderson-era keepsakes.

4. Acne Studios Bowlina Shoulder Bag

When the campaign features Charli XCX, you know it’s going to be an it-bag. First seen on the Stockholm label’s FW24 runway, the Bowlina Shoulder Bag is crafted from smooth lamb leather with a semi-shiny finish, and features a distinctive curved silhouette, spacious interiors, a double zip closure and silver-toned hardware throughout. The top handle offers easy carry, but you can also tuck this one comfortably under your arm too (though it does come in a smaller size if you’d prefer something a little more dainty on a night out).

5. Prada Bonnie Bag

Crafted from glossy calfskin leather, this vintage-inspired handbag features an uber-popular east-west silhouette, reinterpreting one of Prada’s standout belted styles from SS24. The design has been updated for the new season with a slouchier structure, enhanced by dual carry options, practical zipper compartments, and the iconic enamelled metal triangle logo.

6. Dior Medium Dior Voyage Bag

Since its debut for Cruise 2026, the Dior Voyage bag has quickly earned its place as a modern classic, combining soft lines with refined structure. Crafted in black grained calfskin with Flat Macrocannage topstitching, it offers a fresh interpretation of the House’s signature motif. Gold-finish metal D.I.O.R. charms and finely detailed leather accents lend a luminous sophistication, while the secure two-way zip closure ensures effortless practicality. Inside, the cotton and linen lining and interior zip pocket speak to Dior’s dedication to craftsmanship. Designed with an adjustable leather top handle, the medium bag transitions seamlessly from day to evening, making it an elegant companion for everyday wear.

7. Burberry B Clip Shoulder Bag

Crafted in Italy from buttery calf suede (joining the swathe of suede bags dominating trends at the moment), the Burberry B Clip Shoulder Bag made its debut on the SS25 runway with a softly curved silhouette that nods to equestrian saddles. Unlined for a relaxed, slouchy feel, it’s finished with hand-painted edges, brushed metal hardware, and a signature B-shaped clasp. It can be carried by the rolled leather top handle or go hands-free with the adjustable webbing strap, subtly embossed with the Equestrian Knight Design. A zip closure keeps your essentials secure, while an interior slip pocket and protective dust bag add to its everyday practicality.

8. Saint Laurent Le 37 Bucket Bag

When Kendall Jenner did a recent ‘In Your Bag’ video online, all eyes were on her burgundy YSL Le 37 Bucket Bag. Introduced by Anthony Vaccarello and Saint Laurent in Spring 2023, it’s the kind of piece that balances polish with practicality. Crafted in glossy Arabica-hued calfskin leather and finished with a sculptural top handle, it features a suede lining, the iconic Cassandre hook closure, an adjustable strap, internal zip pocket and four protective feet. It’s also big enough to tote your essentials and then some.

9. CHANEL 25 Handbag

Introduced as part of the House’s SS25 collection, and with a campaign fronted by Dua Lipa and JENNIE, the CHANEL 25 is one of 2025’s most sought-after (and sold-out) bags. It has this soft, hobo-style shape with two oversized side pockets – super practical for everyday – and still carries all the signature CHANEL touches, like grained calfskin, gold-tone hardware, and that unmistakable polish.

10. BALENCIAGA Le City

The Balenciaga Le City Bag (formerly known as the Motorcycle bag) is a revival of the early 2000s icon originally designed by then-creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière. Re-released by Demna last year, they updated Le City is crafted in Arena Storico lambskin with braided handles, brass hardware, and an ultra-slouchy silhouette. It’s available in a plethora of colourways, and in three sizes – the largest of which fits a small laptop. Beloved by Kate Moss, Bella Hadid, Devon Lee Carlson and Kaia Gerber, this oversized staple has very quickly reclaimed its it-bag status.

11. THE ATTICO Day Off Shoulder Bag

Crafted in Italy from rich olive calf suede, Milan-based The Attico’s Day Off Shoulder Bag features an asymmetric body, push-lock closure, internal patch pocket, and a detachable, adjustable strap for versatile styling. Since its late 2021 debut, the bag has garnered cult status for its sleek utility and minimal 90s silhouette.

12. OSOI Black Shoulder Brocle Mini Bag

Since 2017, Osoi has quickly developed a loyal Korean following, and the Brocle Bag embodies the label’s signature approach to minimalist, structured design. It’s crafted in grained leather with fixed shoulder straps, cotton canvas lining, and finished with distinctive hardware like detachable key charms on a pin-buckle strap. Named after the Japanese word for “unhurried,” OSOI focuses on slow craftsmanship, working with local tanneries and ateliers to produce buttery smooth leather.

13. Gucci Jackie 1961

The Jackie bag has been around since the 60s – it was later renamed after Jackie Kennedy, who used to carry it all the time – but this new version from Gucci’s Pre-Fall 25 collection keeps the classic shape (kind of a curved, half-moon) but in this beautiful brown woven leather with light gold hardware. It still has the signature piston closure, and now there are two strap options: a short top handle and a longer, adjustable strap you can wear on the shoulder. It’s surprisingly compact but fits the essentials.

14. Coach Empire 34

The Empire 34 is basically the little sister to the viral Empire 26 – it’s made from shiny patent leather, super roomy inside with a main compartment, slip pocket, and even a key leash. It’s sold out almost everywhere (it’s that popular), and the shape feels really classic Coach, but with that modern, polished edge they’re known for.

15. THE ROW 90s Leather Tote

The Row’s 90s Leather Tote is one of those pieces that feels effortlessly cool – Mary-Kate and Ashley designed it as a nod to classic 90s baguette styles, and yet it still feels totally modern. Made in Italy from 100% finely grained calfskin leather, it features a tubular silhouette with softly rounded edges, leather piping and an adjustable slim leather strap.

16. A-ESQUE Cloud Clutch

This is the Cloud Bag in Smooth Burgundy – it’s handcrafted in A-ESQUE’s Melbourne Atelier from smooth Italian leather, with a soft suede lining. The hand-turned seams give it that sculptural, organic shape (similar to the LOEWE Flamingo), and it closes with a hidden hinged bar for a really clean, secure finish. It also comes with a removable strap, so you can wear it crossbody or carry it as a clutch.

17. Christopher Esber Gondola Mini Tote

Crafted in Spain from Italian-sourced calf leather suede, Esber’s Gondola is a sculptural mini tote that pairs sharp architectural folds with a soft short-hair texture for a striking tactile contrast. Its minimalist flap opening conceals a detachable mini purse and custom embossed logo.

18. ALAÏA Le Click Bag

Le Click is one of ALAÏA’s newest bags – one they showed for the first time during their SS25 show at The Guggenheim. It has this really sleek East-West shape that curves to the body, and all these beautiful details like a leather-wrapped hinge opening, folded base, and little metallic ring ties. You can wear it crossbody or on the shoulder, and the glossy calfskin makes it feel super polished.

19. Fendi Baguette

Since its 1997 debut, the Fendi Baguette has remained a fashion icon thanks to its underarm silhouette, versatile styling, and enduring It-bag status. While sold-out nearly everywhere, this edition, crafted in Italy from blue Cuoio Romano leather with a denim-effect finish and yellow contrast stitching, features a magnetic flap closure, unlined interior, FF clasp, and detachable strap for hand, shoulder, or cross-body wear.

We’ve always been of the firm belief that just because warmer weather is upon us, it doesn’t mean we all need to surrender to the open-toe. There’s an assumption that spring and summer automatically call for strappy sandals and barely-there footwear, but that’s not always the case — nor should it be. Some of us are still feeling a little foot-shy (no shame), and others simply aren’t ready to let our toe-ish freak flag fly just yet.

When you’re deep in the depths of winter, it feels like Spring will never arrive. But inevitably, September always rolls around, and the chill lifts just a little, the days get a touch longer, and the air a little brighter. Our wardrobe, too, follows suit. Where thick coats once dominated, lighter layers take their place. We might deign to bare our legs a little, or slip out of boots and into a pair of sandals (once a pedicure has been acquired, of course). It also feels like an appropriate time to retire all-blacks in favour of a little colour here, perhaps an injection of pattern there.

September dressing, and Spring more generally, is about the in between — not quite summer, not fully winter. It’s the art of layering light knits over bare shoulders, of pairing mini skirts with knee-high boots, or wearing sheer dresses with something substantial underneath. There’s an undeniable to this sartorial shift. And as we venture further into September, as we swap heavy textures for silk, cotton, linen — tactile fabrics that breathe with the body. Tailoring returns, but it’s relaxed and oversized, paired with ballet flats or sporty sneakers for ease. And as far as leather goods are concerned, we’re gravitating towards pieces that are compatible with our every day, but still pack a punch. Obviously, the RIMOWA Groove cross-body bag is at the top of our list. Everything feels a little undone, in the best way.
