Christopher Nolan’s next project, The Odyssey, is more than well underway, and now, not only do we have first-look images and some insight from lead actor Tom Holland on the film, we also officially have a trailer. Filming for the project (which was shot entirely on Imax cameras) has reportedly taken officially wrapped across Morocco, Iceland, Greece, Sicily, and Scotland, with Holland telling GQ Sports that it was “the job of a lifetime, no doubt.”

He went into detail on the star-studded set itself, saying it was “The best experience I’ve had on a film set. Incredible. It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”

Of course, he also had glowing reviews for director Nolan and producer Emma Scott, saying “Working with Chris, getting to know him and Emma was absolutely fantastic. I’ve never seen someone that can work the way that they do, and there is a reason why they’re the best in the business for sure,” Holland continued. “To get a front row seat to that and to be a part of the process and to collaborate with a true master of his craft and learn from him was the best experience I’ve ever had.”

If Holland’s endorsement has got you as excited for the upcoming project as us, you’re in luck. Keep reading for everything we know about The Odyssey so far, below.

Who else is Christopher Nolan’s new movie?

The first actors to be cast in the project were Tom Holland and Matt Damon. Appearing on Good Morning America in October, Holland said of the news, “I’m incredibly excited. And, obviously, honoured, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s all I know.” As for Damon, it’s his third time collaborating with the director, having also starred in Interstellar and, more recently, Oppenheimer.

Three powerful women were next to join: Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Anne Hathaway. Zendaya and Hathaway have previously shared the screen for a Bulgari campaign, but have yet to work together on a significant project of this kind. Hathaway, however, has experience working with Nolan, who famously cast her in Interstellar, shortly after she faced significant backlash for Les Miserables

“I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of… And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me,” the actress said at the time.

Next to join the ensemble was Robert Pattinson, who has previously worked with Nolan on Tenet. The actor has been booked and busy recently, with a sequel to The Batman in the works, plus a starring role in A24’s Primetime, and The Drama. Benny Safdie later rounded out the ensemble.

What is Christopher Nolan’s new film about?

According to Universal, The Oddyssey is an adaptation of the Greek epic poem written by Homer.

“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” the studio said at the time. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026,” the production company said in a statement.

As for exactly what this will entail, the details are still tightly under wraps.

When does Christopher Nolan’s next movie come out?

At this stage, the film is slated for release on July 17, 2026.

A moment please, for Brendan Fraser and his on-screen mastery https://www.russh.com/brendan-fraser-best-movies/ Sun, 21 Dec 2025 23:00:38 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=136941 Here, we share 10 of our favourite film moments where Fraser really outdid himself.

The post A moment please, for Brendan Fraser and his on-screen mastery appeared first on RUSSH.

As a new wave of hot, unproblematic heartthrobs enter the zeitgeist – Harry and Timothée we’re looking at you – we’ll admit that it’s been some time since we thought about the stars who got us through the 90s and early 2000s. It’s unfair, we know. So, when Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for The Whale at the 2023 Oscars, we thought it was time to shine light on some of his most memorable films to date.

In the spirit of throwing it back, we took a trip down memory lane to be reminded of some of Fraser’s best movies. And boy, it did not disappoint. From mummy-fighting explorer, to high school football star and everything in between, we present to you the 10 best movies where Brendan Fraser stole the show. In no particular order, of course.

1. The Mummy (1999)

Seeing The Mummy on the list of Fraser’s best movies is no surprise. This man carried the storyline over three whole films, and that alone deserves praise. The one we are focussing on, of course, is the first film. Based loosely on the 1932 feature of the same name, this action-horror follows explorer Rick O’Connell (Fraser), Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), and Evelyn’s brother Jonathan (John Hannah), on their search for treasure. In the process, they very inconveniently wake up a revenge-fuelled mummified priest, which throws a spanner in the works. Even if you hate mummy’s, Fraser’s charisma and charm will get you through.

2. Airheads (1994)

Is Airheads the definition of chaos? Yes. Is it also one of Fraser’s most iconic films for exactly that reason? Also yes. The 1994 film is almost so comical, it feels perfectly placed as a potential SNL skit. Starring Fraser, Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi, the trio portray a no-hope band with hopes of making it big. When their plans of stardom don’t come to fruition, they go to extreme lengths to have their music heard; ultimately finding themselves as wanted criminals for masterminding a hostage situation. So bad it’s good – and who doesn’t love seeing Fraser with longer locks?

3. Blast From The Past (1999)

Like we already mentioned, Fraser can do it all. You want 90s rom-com? He’s got you. Blast From The Past with Alicia Silverstone always hits the spot. After living in a bunker with his parents all his life, with no knowledge of the outside world, Fraser’s character Adam, emerges 35 years later. Completely underrated and sees Fraser at his goofiest. We love to see it.

4. Crash (2004)

There’s a reason why Crash took out Best Picture at the 78th Academy Awards, and Fraser is one of those reasons. The film follows a series of people living in Los Angeles – an attorney and his wife, a set of detectives in a relationship, a wealthy couple, a store owner, and a police officer. Fraser plays a slightly-racist Los Angeles District Attorney, Rick Cabot; and Sandra Bullock plays his wife (a majorly racist white woman). Necessary watching, always.

5. Gods And Monsters (1998)

Ian McKellen and Fraser form an unlikely pair in the 1998 drama, Gods And Monsters. The period film is based on the later days of director James Whale’s (McKellen) life. The director was known for bringing Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein to the screen, but his life otherwise was filled with depression and health complications. In the process, he befriends his gardener Clayton Boone (Fraser), but the duo find themselves at a crossroads with different ideas of where they see their friendship going.

6. School Ties (1992)

Even though not everyone was on board with School Ties, it is undoubtedly one of the best Brendan Fraser movies in my book. We see a young Fraser, playing David Greene – a high school football star who is the talk of the town until his preppy, wealthy friends uncover his ‘real’ identity. Fraser’s character struggles with his cultural identity in the face of anti-Semitism and prejudice from the people he once considered his friends. Starring alongside Matt Damon and several other big names, School Ties is certainly worth talking about.

7. The Quiet American (2002)

Murder, mystery, a love triangle and Brendan Fraser – can it get any better than that? Michael Caine also stars in The Quiet American, so I guess it can. Based on Graham Greene’s novel of the same name, the film focuses on an English journalist (Caine) and a young American (Fraser), who find themselves falling for the same Vietnamese woman. Set against the backdrop of the French Indochina War in Vietnam, this film ticks all the boxes.

8. The Air I Breathe (2007)

In the shadow of some of his other films, The Air I Breathe doesn’t get nearly as much attention. The film is based on a Chinese proverb about life being broken into four emotions – happiness, pleasure, sorrow, and love. The crime drama follows a set of different characters who each represent the four emotions. Fraser, portrays Pleasure, a character who is able to foresee the futures of those around him.

9. With Honors (1994)

Even though we love seeing Fraser take on more serious roles, comedy does suit the man well. With Honors follows the story of a graduate student whose thesis ends up in the possession of a homeless man – played by Joe Pesci. What initially begins as a means to having his thesis returned in one piece, the unlikely pair slowly form a bond that teaches them both a lot about life on the other side. Yes, it’s riddled with clichés, but that’s exactly why we love it.

10. Still Breathing (1997)

Rounding out the list is Still Breathing. The film follows a con artist (Joanna Going) and a puppeteer (Fraser) who end up meeting together in California after being linked by a similar dream. Sure, it wasn’t a conventional blockbuster, but it paints Fraser in his best light – charming, romantic and hot. Yes, we said it.

11. The Whale (2022)

An obese and reclusive English teacher tries to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption. Based on a play, this Darren Aronofsky film certainly brings this adaptation to new horizons.

Five authors like Nora Ephron to read if you’re a hopeless romantic https://www.russh.com/authors-like-nora-ephron/ Sun, 21 Dec 2025 01:00:00 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=242627 If, like us, you've already devoured Ephron's catalogue and are hungry for more, we've got you covered.

The post Five authors like Nora Ephron to read if you’re a hopeless romantic appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
Few authors have had quite the same cultural impact as Nora Ephron. Her unique ability to blend humour with poignant observations on love, life, and the human experience has been capturing the hearts of her loyal fans for decades.

While we’ll never get tired of re-watching her films — from Sleepless in Seattle to When Harry Met Sally — which irrevocably changed the rom-com genre, we’d argue that the best way to experience Ephron’s genius is through her written work. Whether she’s pondering ageing with cutting-edge wit in I Feel Bad About My Neck, or self-deprecatingly recounting a breakup in Heartburn, Ephron’s unique ability to make us laugh, cry, and really feel is largely unmatched.

If, like us, you’ve already devoured Ephron’s catalogue and are hungry for more, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’re rounding up five authors like Nora Ephron that are worth reading next.

Dolly Alderton

dolly alderton books

If Nora Ephron was a millenial, she would be Dolly Alderton. The British author and columnist has mastered the art of capturing the confusion of your twenties and thirties — with a heavy emphasis on love and heartbreak. Her collection, while short, is worth looking into if you’re a fan of Ephron, from Everything I Know About Love to Good Material.

Deborah Levy

It’s true that Deborah Levy’s work veers a little more into introspective and often darker territory, but she does share Ephron’s ability to summarise deep emotional insights with sharp, engaging writing. In Hot Milk, she explores the often strange and confusing nature of womanhood, while in Swimming Home, she takes aim at the insidiousness of depression.

Helen Fielding

Helen Fielding books

If you ask us, Helen Fielding is somewhat of a British version of Nora Ephron. The brains behind Bridget Jones, Fielding is, like Ephron, adept at exposing all the chaotic, messy parts of being a woman, without every losing her sense of humour. If self-depcreation is your brand of comedy, look no further.

Sally Rooney

Known for her sharply drawn characters and exploration of relationships, Sally Rooney shares more than a few similarities with Ephron. Her novels, from Normal People to the newer Intermezzo, delve into the complexities of friendships, love, and the quiet moments that define us. Rooney’s writing, like Ephron’s, is intimate and unflinching in its exploration of modern relationships, though her tone tends to be more understated and emotionally layered.

Marian Keyes

Marian Keyes books

For writing that expertly balances humour with emotion, Marian Keyes is another author to consider. Her books, including Watermelon and Rachel’s Holiday, typically revolve around complex characters navigating personal struggles like addiction, family dynamics, and love. Her comedic touch, along with her ability to tackle serious issues with sensitivity, makes her a beloved author in the vein of both Ephron.

The Trans Theatre Festival is coming to Sydney and Melbourne – here’s what’s on the program https://www.russh.com/trans-theatre-festival-australia-2026/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 00:30:13 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=275225 Who's on the lineup, how to buy tickets and where it's happening.

The post The Trans Theatre Festival is coming to Sydney and Melbourne – here’s what’s on the program appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
This January, something genuinely historic is happening on Australian stages. For the first time ever, Australia is hosting a Trans Theatre Festival – a bold, joyful and unapologetic celebration of trans and gender diverse artistry – landing in Sydney and Melbourne across January 2026.

“This festival is about radical visibility and imagination,” says Artistic Director Dino Dimitriadis, and that spirit runs through every element of the program. In a moment when trans lives are increasingly politicised and arts infrastructure is under pressure, the Trans Theatre Festival invites audiences to sit together, listen deeply.

When is it?

The festival runs from 7–18 January at Carriageworks in Sydney and 21–31 January at Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne.

Who is running the festival?

Co-presented by Green Door Theatre Company alongside Carriageworks and Malthouse Theatre, and led by Artistic Director Dino Dimitriadis.

What’s on the program?

At the heart of the program is international icon Travis Alabanza, bringing their acclaimed solo work BURGERZ to Australia for the first time. Since premiering in 2018, BURGERZ has sold out theatres across the world and won the Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show is as funny as it is devastating, tracing Alabanza’s response to a real-life act of transphobic violence – someone throwing a burger at them in public – and transforming it into a fiercely imaginative exploration of survival, embodiment and resistance. 2026 also marks ten years since that moment on London’s Waterloo Bridge, giving this Australian debut even greater resonance.

But BURGERZ is just the beginning. The festival also features Daley Rangi’s Takatāpui, alongside staged readings of two exciting new works: Hermaphroditus by Zoe Terakes and Gull by Glace Chase. Together, the program showcases a rich range of voices, forms and perspectives from across the trans theatre landscape.

Beyond the performances, the festival opens up into an expansive wrap-around program designed to build long-term impact. There are masterclasses connecting emerging and established artists, major new play developments in both states, symposium days packed with panels and showcases, late-night gatherings, and a strong commitment to accessible pricing and community ticketing. It’s about creating space not just on stage, but across the entire ecosystem of Australian theatre.

Where and when can I buy tickets?

Tickets are available now via the Carriageworks website.

We just got an update on Benito Skinner’s ‘Overcompensating’ season two https://www.russh.com/overcompensating-season-two/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 21:00:23 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=258740 We're obsessed (bleep it).

The post We just got an update on Benito Skinner’s ‘Overcompensating’ season two appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
If you know us, you know we’re obsessed (bleep it) with Benito Skinner. From his podcast to his Instagram skits, we eat up everything the comedian puts into the universe. Naturally, news of his debut series, Overcompensating, was music to our ears, and we were quick to watch the first season in its entirety. But an Overcompensating-shaped hole has loomed large in our lives since the credits rolled on the final episode, and we’ve been dreaming of the day season two might finally get confirmed. Now, it’s finally been filled — with season two en route. Here’s what we know.

Yes, season two is happening

Skinner took to Instagram to share the news, finally putting an end to mounting speculation about the fate of the series.

“WE’RE OFFICIALLY GOING BACK 2 SCHOOL,” he wrote. “Thank you so much for all your insane love for this show. And thank you for being so patient while Daddy’s been cooking season 2.”

When will season two come out?

This much remains to be seen. The latest update comes courtesy of Kyle McLachlan, who starred in season one as Skinner’s dad. Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere of Fallout season 2, he said, “I know that Benny and the group are in the writers room, and I know they’re working away. But I am as curious as you are about what they have up their sleeve, so we’ll see. I mean, whatever it is, it’ll be great.”

We know season one (which is loosely based on Skinner’s own coming out story) took around five years to develop. We’re hopeful that the season two timeline might be a little shorter, but we’ll keep you updated when we know more.

A writers room has reportedly already been formed

Long before season two was made concrete, rumours were swirling that a writers room had already been formed. Film Updates reported that a writers room for the second season was “in progress” back in July, and Amazon had been “praising the show’s passionate fanbase and strong completion rates.” They were quick to temper this news by saying that show hadn’t been formally renewed, however the outlet also said that conversations were ongoing, and an outcome was expected imminently.

Benny teased a second season on TikTok

Skinner soft-launched the idea of a second season on TikTok, where he posted a video with friend and Overcompensating cast member Owen Thiele dancing, writing simply: “Benny in season 2…”

It goes without saying that the comment section went into overdrive, with users commenting, “Is this how you confirm season 2???” and, “This better be your way of announcing a season two.”

Season two could feature a cameo from Terry’s mum

If you’re a fan of Skinner, chances are you also love his ex-boyfriend, Terry O’Connor. O’Connor is a photographer and creative (credited with Charli xcx’s Brat rollout), and he (and his mum) are a frequent topic of conversation on Skinner’s social media. When we chatted with Skinner about the possibility of a cameo from Skinner’s mum, he shared: “We tried to get Terry’s mum in this, but she had a tee time…. She’s very busy right now.”

What the ‘RUSSH’ editors were watching, reading and listening to in December https://www.russh.com/watch-listen-read-december-2025/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 03:00:28 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=275092 At ‘RUSSH’, we’re never short of a recommendation.

We’re year for our end-of-year check in and not short of recommendations across the field. From pop star mockumentaries and rock’n’roll memoirs to YouTube vlogs and Nick Cave adaptations – this is exactly what the RUSSH Editors have been watching, listening to and reading in the month of December…

Sophia Serafin

Implementation Manager

Watch … Trailers for films I’m excited about: The Moment by Charli xcx, Wuthering Heights by Emerald Fennell (on my twelfth-or-so rewatch), Bugonia by Yorgos Lanthimos (I loved Poor Things by him), and Mother Mary by David Lowery. Alongside that, lots of YouTube like Actors on Actors new season and vlogs from my faves Claudia Sulewski and Devon Lee Carlson.

Listen … I discovered electronic punk / bass band SEXTILE in the closing credits of Ep.6 of I Love LA. I’m obsessed specifically with Contortion and Disco. Have also rediscovered Triple J Like a Version playlist on Spotify – always a fail-safe. I am equally excited for the Wuthering Heights soundtrack…

Read … Currently reading Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid (even though I have an irrational fear of space).

Jaime Carmody

Digital Marketing Specialist

Watch… Love Actually. Need I say more?

Listen… This month has turned me into an Audrey Hobart superfan. I’ve also been revisiting The Sundays, the perfect soundtrack for slower mornings and reflective evenings.

Read… Lorrie Moore’s Self Help has been one of my standout reads of the year. Wry, sharp and tender, it’s a book I know I’ll definitely come back to.

Stacey Gaskin

Consumer Revenue Manager

Watch … How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone and The Holiday – for obvious reasons. And I am sat and ready for the fifth season of Emily In Paris, out December 18th.

Listen … You Can Call It Yours by Breathless – on repeat – along with The Downtown Lights by The Blue Nile. Also, NF’s new EP, FEAR.

Read … I have The Dressmaker’s Gift by Fiona Valpy and Katabasis by R.F. Kuang on my TBR for this month.

Cassandra Dimitroff

Features and Production Editor

Watch … Obviously, Stranger Things S5. I’m holding out for the next ep drop on Boxing Day.

Listen … Revisiting Real Estate’s In Mind album (a perfect Indie classic). And finally listening to Sombr’s I Barely Know Her (12 to 12 and Come Closer are my picks).

Read … Cameron Crowe’s memoir The Uncool. If you’re a fan of Almost Famous, this acts as a kind of extended cut.

Alys Hale

Music Editor and Creative Producer

Watch … The minutes go by until we’re all on holiday…? I jest, perhaps. I watched The Death of Bunny Munroe, the series based on Nick Cave’s 2009 novel and adored it. Parts of it were incredibly silly but the performances were so genuine and Cave’s cameo with that moustache: perfect. The new documentary on The New York Times is on my list, and I learnt a lot of new theories on the scene from the Sean Combs documentary, along with some truly harrowing behaviours. However, I will be needing some festive joy and I’m trying to convince the 7-year-old in my life to watch The Muppet’s Christmas Carol with me.

Listen … Anything but Mariah Carey, under any circumstances. I do not get behind much Christmas music so it will be business as usual over here. Tom Waits’ Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis is the only exception to my rule.

Read … I’m still on my Jonathan Frazen moment so have been reading Crossroads, a family saga set in the 70s with affairs, christian youth groups and women with secret pasts.

Kirsty Thatcher

Digital Editor

Watch… A24’s Eternity. I had such high expectations, and it really feels like a classic rom-com. I’m also rewatching Veep for the millionth time. It never fails to make me laugh, which feels very needed at the moment.

Listen… Emma Chamberlain’s guest appearance on In Your Dreams with Owen Theile. IYKYK.

Read… Heart The Lover, by Lily King. I zipped through this in a few days, it’s a great one to kick you off if you’ve been in a reading slump (like me). Next on my list is Bitter Sweet by Hattie Williams.

Samantha Corry

Social Media Coordinator & Assistant to Editor in Chief

Watch … Oh What Fun. It’s a new Christmas movie with the best cast: Dominic Sessa, Michelle Pfieffer, Havana Rose Liu, and plenty more. Also, Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man, with Josh O’Connor – do I need to say anything else? You already know it’s a 10/10 film. Also giving his character, a priest, a neck tattoo is so cunty.

Listen … A little bit of Mac DeMarco, Robyn and Jensen McCrae.

Read … Nothing – I have been so busy I haven’t touched a book!

Mia Steiber

Digital Strategy Director & Associate Publisher

Watch … I’ve been rewatching some of my favourite travel-themed movies. Call Me By Your Name, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Only You. They’re the perfect movies to have on in the background for the scenery. Over the Christmas break I am planning to do a watch of the Oscars shortlist

Listen … I discovered Stand Atlantic after attending Good Things earlier in December. I technically did know them but only one or two songs. Now I’ve been listening to their whole back catalogue, they’re great.

Read … I’ve been stocking up for the December break. A Wuthering Heights reread is on my list. I’m hoping to finish the Throne of Glass series. And also, I want to make my way through the Crescent City books in preparation for the next ACOTAR book which should be coming out at the beginning of 2026.

Wait, is Harry Styles about to announce a stadium tour? https://www.russh.com/harry-styles-tour-2026-2027-tickets-dates/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 00:00:53 +0000 https://www.russh.com/?p=275112 Christmas has come early.

The post Wait, is Harry Styles about to announce a stadium tour? appeared first on RUSSH.

]]>
The gaping hole left in our lives by Harry Styles’ current hiatus is well documented. And while we’ve been hyper-fixated on if (and when) the British singer might drop his fourth album, it seems a whole new rumour has started, right under our noses. Yep, if our sources are correct, not only is Styles rewarding our patience with new music in 2026, but a stadium tour schedule to accompany it.

Here’s what we know.

Harry Styles reportedly has 12 shows on the horizon in 2026

It’s all thanks to Deux Moi, which alleged in its December 8 newsletter that the singer is gearing up for 12 stadium shows in the UK in 2026, and even more in 2027.

The unnamed source also guessed that Styles might follow a similar touring pattern as Taylor Swift’s mega Eras shows, which utilised London’s Wembley Stadium.

Styles is also a favourite to headline Glastonbury in 2027

While the iconic British festival will go on hiatus in 2026, Styles is currently a rumoured frontrunner to take to the stage in 2027. Of course, fans have been quick to notice that this would align with the above touring dates…

Strengthening this rumour, an unnamed record label source recently told The Daily Mail, “Harry was gutted not to do this year’s [2025] Glastonbury Festival, but he’s near certain to play at the next one, which due to the fallow year in 2026, doesn’t take place until 2027.”

Over on Reddit, other fans have noted that Styles previously waited for a spot at Coachella to debut Harry’s House, so he might do the same at Glastonbury in 2027.

Would it be a stadium tour?

The dominant theory online is yes. With Styles’ fan base only growing, it seems likely that he’d expand his next tour to an arena-style, to maximise the amount of fans who get to attend.

However, one Reddit user pointed out that Styles has previously shown an affinity for stadiums, deep-diving the venues he has previously played in to estimate where he might go next time: “He loves MSG [Madison Square Garden] and The Forum [California], I don’t see him not playing both of those. Wembley definitely. Probably the new space in Manchester he’s invested in.”

An Australian visit is apparently “100%” on the cards

Yes, that is the sound of us squealing. Back in August, The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick radio show claimed that Styles had not only finished his new album, but was heading Down Under to promote it in 2026.

“I’ve got some hot press,” Fev began on August 21. “It was word of mouth, straight from a very, very close confidant. Harry Styles has now completed his album; it’s been completed for about a month.”

He continued, “He’s going to be releasing that album, maybe late this year or early next year. When an album gets released, what do they do? They tour. He’ll be touring Australia next year. 100% coming to Australia. It’s huge news.”

Huge news indeed. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.Feature image: one, two.

If there’s one thing we never get tired of, it’s watching our favourite reads take on a second life. And 2026 is shaping up to be another stacked year for book lovers, with both film and television turning to novels old and new for their next big stories.

From modern cult favourites to classic literature with a twist, these are the book-to-screen adaptations set to define the next year. Consider this your reminder to get reading.

1. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

people we meet on vacation

Release date: January 9, 2026

Emily Henry’s cult-favourite friends-to-lovers romance is officially getting the Netflix treatment. The story centres on Poppy and Alex, two opposites who are somehow best friends — until a disastrous holiday ended their annual summer trips. Two years later, Poppy convinces Alex to give it one more go, hoping the getaway will fix whatever broke between them. Emily Bader stars as Poppy, with Tom Blyth as Alex, joined by Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Molly Shannon and Lukas Gage.

2. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Release date: 14 February, 2026

Oh we’ve been waiting for this one. Emerald Fennell is taking on Brontë’s stormiest masterpiece, with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi cast as Catherine and Heathcliff. Produced by Robbie’s company LuckyChap, the film promises a modern, sensorial take on the doomed lovers who haunt the Yorkshire moors – just listen to Charli XCX’s original score for proof. If Fennell’s track record (Saltburn, Promising Young Woman, the list goes on) means anything, this will be lush, provocative, and rich in symbolism.

3. Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen

Release date: September 11, 2026

A new generation is getting its own Sense & Sensibility. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles and George MacKay, this adaptation promises a sharper, more youthful lens on Austen’s story of love, restraint and social pressure – particularly considering the screenplay was written by Australia’s own Diana Reid. We can’t wait to be re-introduced to the Dashwood sisters.

4. Verity by Colleen Hoover

Release date: October 2, 2026

Colleen Hoover’s psychological thriller is stepping into the spotlight at last. Verity is heading to the big screen with Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett in the lead roles — perfect casting for this twisted trio, if we do say so ourselves. The plot centres on Lowen, a struggling writer hired to complete a bestselling author’s unfinished novels, only to uncover something darker in the family home. Expect a twisty adaptation that leans into the book’s most unsettling turns.

5. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

Release date: November 20, 2026

The Hunger Games is looking back — this time through the eyes of a young Haymitch Abernathy. Suzanne Collins’ newest prequel traces the brutal events of the 50th Hunger Games, long before Katniss ever stepped into the arena. With a teaser trailer already here, expect a darker, more political origin story that deepens the mythology of Panem.

6. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis

Release date: November 26, 2026

Greta Gerwig’s next major literary adaptation is a return to Narnia — but not the version we’ve seen on screen before. The Magician’s Nephew, the origin story of the entire Chronicles, follows the creation of Narnia, the first appearance of the White Witch, and the earliest magic that shaped the world. With Netflix backing it and a late-2026 release planned, it’s set to be one of the year’s biggest fantasy events.

7. Heartstopper Forever by Alice Oseman

Release date: TBC

Nick and Charlie’s story isn’t ending quietly. The final instalment of Alice Oseman’s graphic-novel series is being adapted as a feature-length film, set to close the Heartstopper universe with one last chapter in 2026. Expect tenderness, growing pains and a heartfelt send-off to one of the most beloved queer love stories of the decade.

8. Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe

Release date: TBC

Rufi Thorpe’s novel is heading to television with an A-list cast to match. The series follows Margo Millet — a young single mum trying to stay afloat after dropping out of college — who turns to OnlyFans as a last-ditch attempt to make rent. When her estranged father, a washed-up pro wrestler, reappears, Margo’s life becomes even more chaotic (and unexpectedly funny). Elle Fanning is set to lead the series, with Michelle Pfeiffer playing her mother and Nicole Kidman attached in a still-unknown role.

9. Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell

scarpetta

Release date: March 11 2026, on Prime Video

Another Nicole Kidman-centric masterpiece, though this one falls into the crime thriller category. Scarpetta borrows its plot from Patricia Cornwell’s novels, charting the highly skilled Dr. Kay Scarpetta (played by Kidman), who resolves to uncover the identity of a serial killer, while at the same time proving her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing.

There are some equally big names rounding out the cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, and Bobby Cannavale.

10. The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

god of the woods

Release date: TBC

This New York Times best seller is heading to Netflix, as an hour-long series. There’s no word on casting yet, but allow us to catch you up on the plot. It’s described as “a multi-generational drama series set in the Adirondacks, exploring the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13 year old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp—in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related. As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.” We’re listening.

If there’s one toxic relationship we wish could play out for eternity, it would be Lucy and Stephen’s in Tell Me Lies. Now, that wish has been granted — at least for another eight episodes, with the series renewed for a third season, which is very nearly on our screens.

For the first two series, we’ve become addicted to the drama of the duo — played by real-life couple Grace Van Patten and Jackson White — who go from university flames to one of the most catatonic relationships we’ve ever seen. Think things couldn’t get any worse? When it concerns Lucy and Stephen, they really can. As for where the pair will take us in season three, find all the important details, below.

When will Tell Me Lies season three come out?

It’s officially been revealed that the first two episodes of season three will hit our screens on January 13, 2026.

There’s a total of eight episodes on the season, with the season finale airing on February 24, 2026.

Eagle-eyed fans have been watching closely for updates on the third season since filming got underway, even taking to TikTok to share footage of Van Patten in action, with the actress spotted in a robe between takes, sporting some very heavy eye makeup.

What is Tell Me Lies season three about?

Without giving too much away, season two ended on a pretty significant cliffhanger, so there are plenty of storylines to go on with in season three. The series is based on on the 2018 novel by the same name by Carola Lovering, so we’d hazard that the next episodes will continue to consult this storyline.

The official logline says season three “follows Lucy Albright (Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (White) as they’ve rekindled their tumultuous romance in time for spring semester at Baird College. While they promise things will be different this time, past indiscretions hinder their best intentions, and Lucy finds herself embroiled in a controversy she wants nothing to do with. Meanwhile, the disastrous repercussions from the previous year also force Lucy and Stephen’s friends to face their own destructive behaviours. As scandalous secrets fester around campus, vicious consequences threaten Lucy and everyone in her circle.”

Who is cast in Tell Me Lies season three?

It would be hard to continue the story without the original cast on board: Lucy, Stephen, Pippa, Bree, Diana, Wrigley, and Evan. There are also a few side characters we’d love to see return in season three. Namely, Oliver, Marianne, Lydia, and Leo.

And new to the cast in season three is Iris Apatow, who has been confirmed as a series regular. According to Deadline, Apatow will play the role of Amanda, a bubbly but fragile college freshman keeping a big secret. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Costa D’Angelo is also a new series regular, playing Alex, a psychology grad student and part-time drug dealer who has a complicated past with Bree.

What do we know about Tell Me Lies season three?

The drama-fuelled show was picked up for another series two months after season two aired. It was relatively expected, with the second season garnering a cult following, and staying in Hulu’s Top 15 shows for more than 50 consecutive days.

It looks like there could be potential for even more Tell Me Lies goodness, beyond season three, with executive producer and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer also signing an overall deal with 20th TV, a part of Disney Television Studios. This will see her continue to helm Tell Me Lies, while also developing, writing and executive producing more original series. Yes please.
